Adrián Arias’s Fire Hummingbird, selected as an Honoraria Project for Burning Man 2025, draws from ancestral traditions and the spirit of Día de los Muertos. The installation takes the form of a pyramid crowned by a luminous hummingbird, a symbol of transformation, memory, and the presence of those who have passed.
Designed as an intimate gathering space, the work invited people to come together to sing, share stories, and honor loved ones and ancestors—those no longer present physically, yet deeply alive in memory, emotion, and spirit. Through this collective experience, Fire Hummingbird became a place of connection, reflection, and communal healing.
I do what I do because art is my way of listening to the ancestors, to the earth, and to the future at the same time. At Black Rock City, this dialogue becomes visible: wood, fire, sound, light, and people all joining in one moment. That is why I create — to open portals where we can remember who we are and imagine who we can still become.
